On Seeing the Stills
The Stills hit Boston last night, and made it well worth draggin' my sorry self out on a rainy weeknight. Their first headlining show here, and a near sell-out. They played most of the songs from their Logic Will Break Your Heart disc, the only non-album songs were the opener ("Killer Bees" from the Remeberese EP) and the last pre-encore number, sung in French, written by a guy they used to play with up in Montreal.
The sound was a little muddy, the banter was a tad contrived, and the crowd made me feel old (I'm getting used to that), but the songs overcame all that... I was very glad to be there, even sans-Amie.

Two things: This is the first time I've ever seen anyone climb the TTs stage speakers... and Oliver the bass player nearly full-on jumped from a standing position back to the floor. Good thing the crowd (and Tim, the singer) yelled "Nooo!" before he did it. Instead he sat down, slid off, and came down clumsily... on Tim. Ah, that's Heineken power, right there.
Also, what is the deal with cabby hats? I mean, I know they're one of the squares on Hipster Bingo, but I have never seen them on so many heads as last night. Is there a chapter in the manual on that? How did that start exactly? Please don't tell me it was that freakin' pop n' lock car ad girl. Hmm... I do sound old now, don't I?
