[Live MP3s] Lush in Chicago 1992

In the absence of a newly-recorded show to share this week, I instead continue with the digitization of my favorite old live cassettes. I took a couple hours yesterday and converted an excellent live Lush set from 1992, when they played Chicago’s Metro as part of its 10th anniversary. Also celebrating an anniversary was WXRT, who broadcast this show as part of their 20th, so the sound quality is excellent…
live at the Metro in Chicago
on August 30th, 1992
broadcast on XRT
1. Stray / Bitter
2. God’s Gift
3. Nothing Natural
4. Ocean
5. For Love
6. Starlust
7. Covert
8. De-Luxe
9. Downer
10. Sweetness & Light
11. Superblast!
12. Monochrome
13. Leaves Me Cold
14. Baby Talk
This show took place at the height of my shoegazey obsession (which has never really left), and I think at the peak of Lush’s sonic evolution. After their second album, ‘Spooky’, and the end of this particular tour, they went in a poppier direction that lost me somewhere along the way. Most of the songs from the above set are from those first two albums, and a couple can be found on their EPs.
Lush guitarist/co-vocalist Emma Anderson is still making music as half of Sing Sing, and you can grab the track ‘Come, Sing Me a Song‘ from their out-on-February-14th disc, ‘Sing Sing and I‘, over at You Ain’t No Picasso.
