[Boston-Area Action 4/8/26] Show-Going Plans & New Show Announcements
Posted on April 8, 2026 at 3:11 pm | No Comments
Well, it may not feel like Spring yet (as I start this post, it freakin’ snowed this morning here in Boston), but the show-going schedule sure looks like it has arrived. So many night-out options, so little time. I know I’m a broken record when it comes to painful choices, but it’s only going to get worse as New England comes out of hibernation. And by worse, I mean better, as we’re getting so many great bands coming out to play. Choose wisely.
To inform those choices, here’s my weekly Wednesday post where I list out potential plans for you & me over the next seven days, along with shows that have been announced since I last did this. Have a look, do some listening, get yourself out to a gig. It’s the cure for what ails you. Unless what ails you is “I need a nap”. In which case, I’ll be of no help.
If there’s anything missing from this run-down that you’re psyched about, whether it’s something you’re going to or something you’re playing at, please feel free to share it in a comment. I can’t keep track of it all. And if I screwed up the details of something you know about, be my fact-checkin’ cuz. We all need ’em.
Personal highlights of my imminent plans: Mark Robinson opening for the Wedding Present tonight at the Sinclair! Swoon. It’s a particularly packed weeknight, and were it not for the Weddoes show, I’d probably have been at Peter Case & Corin Ashley down the street at Passim, or the Earfull show nearby, maybe McClusky & Pile at the Paradise, or possibly Prewn & Lake at Deep Cuts. Weakened Friends are playing on Lansdowne Street, too. WTF is with this Wednesday? Total mid-week madness. Friday has Major Stars & Takaat at Deep Cuts, and Saturday brings something I’ll be driving out to Amherst for: The Magnolia & (Will) Johnson Electric Company performing the songs of Jason Molina at the Drake. That’s gonna be an emotional one, no doubt. If you’re here in town, don’t miss the Dark Spring festival, check out the lineup for Hot Stove, Cool Music, or maybe hit Faces in Malden for a Dana Farber benefit. Next Tuesday brings the Chameleons to Somerville with the Veldt & Lovina Falls at Crystal Ballroom, so get to that one early. Plenty of other shows I could mention, and they’re all listed below or in the right hand column over there –>
My own stand-outs from the announcements: Future Teens at Deep Cuts, Kurt Vile & his band at the Royale, and most excitingly, Rocketship are back! They’ll be at the Rockwell in October with Lightheaded. Highly recommend snagging an early ticket for that one. Also very, very psyched that Jejune & The Shyness Clinic (!!) are playing together at the Sinclair. Thanks, Numero Group!
As for that Public Image Ltd. show at the Paradise I was on the fence about? Well, it was moved to Big Night Live, so that pushed me right off into the ‘no thanks’ zone. That said, we’ll see what the setlists look like as it gets closer. You never know.

[Boston-Area Action 4/2/26] Show-Going Plans & New Show Announcements
Posted on April 2, 2026 at 10:42 am | No Comments
My regular Wednesday post has become a Thursday one this week, good thing it’s not my actual job. Yesterday I was caught up with the work that pays me, and also fixated on Ida house show tickets going on sale (we sold it out in a few hours! nice work, friends!). So my weekly rundown of new Boston-area show announcements and imminent gig-going options got delayed a day. No biggie. Here ’tis.
If I’d written this yesterday, I’d have mentioned last night’s Wednesday/Gouge Away team-up, but it’s not like it needed my promo-help. This Saturday brings my beloved Throwing Muses back to town, a band that’s played no small part in how my life has turned out (that’s not hyperbole, ask my better half). I’m pretty bummed that show is up against the Dirty Three, but I’ll always choose Kristin & company. There are a bunch of other options for aural entertainment this week, so check out the list. I even went out of my usual geographic zone to include a Worcester gig, ‘cuz Hedge is headlining a killer lineup at Ralph’s. Check it.
Below that about-to-happen list, some highlights from the new announcements run-down include Lupo Città’s album release show at the Lilypad in a few weeks, Jason Narducy coming back to town as part of the Earfull Series, White Denim with Arc Iris in October, and a Tortoise/Basic team-up in June, which is painfully the same night as the welcome return of The Bug Club. Ouch.
Have a look at the rest of that list for some other shows that jumped out at me, and might hit you right. If there are things I missed that you’re into, or glaring errors, kindly drop a comment. And glance over at the right-column for a longer list as well —>
