[Boston-Area Action 10/22/2026] Show-Going Plans & New Show Announcements
Posted on October 22, 2026 at 2:18 pm | No Comments
Welcome once again to the weekly-Wednesday-post-thing, though I’m starting this way later in the day than I wanted (busytimes at the day job), so it may become a Thursday-post-thing (edit: it did). Whenever I do share it up, it’ll include a few paragraphs on about-to-occur Boston-area shows of interest (to me, you, daves we know, etc) and recently-announced local shows, followed by longer lists of both. Not comprehensive, just those on my personal taste-radar, or at least adjacent to it.
I am genuinely overwhelmed by the number of shows going on right now around here, so much so that even writing a bit about them is daunting. Tonight has the second of Julien Baker’s 3-night stand at the Middle East Downstairs with Future Teens, and as I write this, there appears to actually be tickets available online (the other two sold out). Meanwhile, at the Rockwell in Davis Square, American Motors will be opening the full-band onelinedrawing show, and Flooding plays with Bloodsports at the Lilypad. Hedge, Declaw, Dagwood, & Something Sneaky are at Deep Cuts, too. All that said, I’m gonna opt for a night at Union Tavern with Rolling Stony, Evelyn Pope, Adult Learners, and at last, the Specific Heats, who I’ve missed out on seeing a couple times since their reemergence. The time has come. Plus, I’m looking forward to a healthy dose of nostalgia being back in the former PA’s Lounge space, where I saw soooo many shows back in the day. Memory overload.
Friday brings Bruce Cockburn to the Chevalier with Livingston Taylor, Arrested Development to the Cabot up in Beverly, and a sure-to-be-fun Halloween show to the Lizard Lounge with Bikini Whale (doing the B-52s), Hey Blondie (doing, well, y’know), and Murdah By Numbahs (as the Police). ‘Tis the season. Saturday gives us… a lot (see the list below)….but my personal picks are the free Aaron Perrino/Luke O’Neil/Max Heinegg team-up at the Medford Brewing Company, the Pet Fox LP release show (at an undisclosed Allston venue… dm the band), or seeing Joe Pernice & Pete Mancini open for the Jayhawks at the Wang. Kinda can’t go wrong.
For me, Sunday is all about seeing Eric Bachmann (Archers of Loaf/Crooked Fingers) in Somerville. That’s sold out, though, so you may opt for Ajda the Turkish Queen, Shadowmerge, & Winds of Alluria at the Lilypad, Movements at Roadrunner, or Radiator Hospital with Dusk at Deep Cuts. Monday brings the L7 farewell tour to town at the Wilbur, and Tuesday has Rhett Miller & Will Dailey at City Winery. That night also brings this month’s installment of the “Which Side Are You On?” protest-music teachout series to the Burren Backroom with Juliana Hatfield & more, along with the first of Built to Spill’s two shows at the Sinclair. Don’t be late for those, as the openers include BtS bassist Melanie Radford playing a duo set with former BtS guitarist Jim Roth (who will join them later that night) along with Thee mighty Quasi. Yes, I am going to both nights. I mean, how could I not?
Ok, recent announcements. My highlights? Chris Brokaw & Kass Richards will be playing together at the Lilypad on November 8th, a killer lineup has been put together for the Trans Day of Resistance show at Deep Cuts on November 22nd, and on December 6th there will be a celebration of the dearly0departed Bruce K. Tull (of Scud Mountain Boys) featuring his bandmates & friends at the Iron Horse in Northampton. Linda Pardee, another much-missed & beloved area musician, will be remembered with a benefit for Dana-Farber on December 11th with Jeffrey Robbins (of Orbit), Vapors of Morphine, & more at the Crystal Ballroom. Into next year, Hallelujah the Hills have been added as openers for Kiwi Jr. at Deep Cuts (good thing, too, as a conflict kept me from their recent Deep Cuts show), Richard Thompson & his band are at the Wilbur on January 24th, and Star Moles hit Warehouse XI on the 27th.
Roadrunner has announced Lambrini Girls with Sprints on March 26th, Haywire on April 4th, and Tinashe on April 28th, while the Royale has the Growlers on April 20th and Shygirl on May 3rd, which is the same night as Angine de Poitrine at MGM Music Hall. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will be at the Sinclair on May 14th, and Pixies will open for Queens of the Stone Age ten days later at the Garden.
More inclusive (though not all-inclusive) lists of imminent shows & new announcements follow. Check the Almanac’s right column over there for all the upcoming shows on my radar as well. And feel free to comment with anything you’re into that I may have missed. As with pokemon, I cannot catch them all.
See you out there. If you wanna bring a non-alcoholic beer up to my front row spot, I’ll get you back, I swear. And I’m not picky.

First, imminent Boston-area shows of (my/your?) interest…
