Boston Tonight: Me, You, + Kevin @ River Gods

Yes, the August installment of the Tourfilter DJ Night is this evening, Thursday the 16th, at River Gods in Cambridge. It marks my return to the monthly song-spinning rotation after taking some much-needed new-dad-time off, and it’s my first pairing with my pal Kevin H., who spends most of his days booking bands over at the Middle East. I can’t recall if Kevin and I ever had back-to-back shifts during our college days at WRUV (so…long…ago), but I’m pretty psyched that the two of us are taking over my favorite bar for a few hours. I’ve got the first slot, starting at 9pm sharp, so come by a little early if you want to say hello… otherwise you’ll only be able to wave at me up in the DJ window.
For those not in the know, the playlists of these monthly Tourfilter DJ Nights feature only bands who will soon be playing in the Boston area. One of the coolest parts about it is that if you like a song you’re hearing, you can send a text message to a special number while it’s playing, and get an instantaneous textual response that includes the band name, song title, and the upcoming show info. Sweet, sweet technology.
My set tonight will include many of the bands listed over there in the left-hand column that are coming to town in the next month or so. So if I don’t see you tonight, maybe I’ll see you at one of those shows…
[Live M3Ps] Beach House at the MFA Boston

Here’s a perfect live set for these hazy mid-August days: A recent performance by Baltimore’s Beach House in the Remis Auditorium at the Museum of Fine Arts here in Boston. It was the final night of their cross-country team-up with the Clientele, and it’d be hard to think up with a more appropriate tourmate match (the Clientele’s set is here).
BH’s Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally used the opportunity to share a few new songs, which they’ll likely be putting down to tape later this month when they head into the studio to record a follow-up to their self-titled debut disc, released domestically last October on Carpark, and a couple weeks ago in the UK on Bella Union. You can buy it at either one of those sites, depending on where you’re reading this from.
Here’s their sublime set… enjoy…
