Paging Mr. Shields / Hellboy

The elusive (and muchly missed) Kevin Shields speaks. That little taste of his work on the Lost in Translation soundtrack was just not enough to satisfy… all we can do is hope for more. Which we’re pretty used to doing, actually.
I love finding out that MBV referred to that mind-bending breakdown during You Made Me Realise as “the holocaust”.
(and I know this article is, by now, two weeks old. What can I say? I was outta town.)

So we saw a preview of Hellboy last night, and it was just excellent. Nearly matched my dangerously high expectations. Visually right on, incorporating bits of existing Mignola stories, great casting (although it’s impossible for me to take Jeffrey Tambor seriously in anything thanks to Arrested Development). I really hope this sucker does well this weekend… goes without saying that I’d like to see a sequel or three.
Memo to the all-too-serious: It’s A Comic. Book. Movie. About a huge, red, kitty-loving, nacho-eating, horned guy. Yes, it’s a little over the top… it’s supposed to be. Yes, logic gets the short shrift at times (clothes vs. fire?), but try to ease up on the nitpicking. Do yourself and your fellow audiences members a favor and let yer imagination take over when you go.

Here’s a little treat. The Breeders, doing the Pixies’ Gigantic, with Joey Santiago guesting on guitar. If the Pixies reunion weren’t already happening, this sure would have fueled those rumors.
Up for Air…

No, I didn’t end up in the Atlantic … I’m alive and well back in Boston, but buried in work and house-type stuff. The last couple London updates are still in progress, but in the meantime, kindly direct your attention to a few sites I’m adding to the link list on the right :
ckelly’s ink – so chris is giving the blog thing another go over on typepad, and here’s hoping he keeps it up this time around. looks like he’s sticking to sports-type stuff so far, which i’m diggin’… but i still wanna know what he’s listening to lately. do tell, ck. mr. miller’s colder – steve’s back, but keep it quiet, ok? we wouldn’t want to scare ‘im back into hiding. better that he’s out in the open where we can keep an eye on ‘im. three nights of pixies? my jealousy knows no bounds. josiejo’s livejournal – my uk friend jo dishes on her life in london, with music-type stuff (top tastes!) and more. we likes jo, yes we does. miss elaine’s neous – the third brit on my list, i met elsie on my last night in london, where i believe she was horrified by comic-bookish discussion. she goes on my links list, even though she doesn’t think the smiths wrote a single good song. i’d call her a ‘cheeky blighter’, but it just sounds so wrong coming from me. cushie butterfield – becky’s not a brit, but she is livin’ over in london, so there. i wholeheartedly admire the frequency with which she updates her blog… she puts so many of us to shame.
Speaking of which, I’m gonna try and make a dent in that London update…
