Barely Certifiable …
The good news: I just passed my first certification exam for Checkpoint firewall administration. This is a pretty big deal for me, since I can now put CCSA after my name on the old resume and bidness card, and it shows that I’m moving right along in the career I started almost a year ago. Makes me a little more ‘marketable’ (not that I’m looking for a job change… don’t worry, boss). It also means my company didn’t waste the money they spent on my training course, and they won’t have to blow any more for a re-test. Whew.
The frightening news: It’s a good thing the sucker was pass/fail, because I barely passed. When I say ‘barely’, I don’t mean I passed by just a few points… I got exactly the minimum percentage. One other question (out of the 75) wrong, and I’d be scheduling my do-over right about now. What got me? Most of the questions were of the “choose all that apply” variety, meaning there’s five answers and any of them could be right. One? Three? All of ’em? Painful. Make me choose one? No problem. Otherwise, I’m talking myself in and out of choices half the time. Lucky for me, I talked myself into just the right number of right answers.
So, while I should be very psyched that I passed, and I’m certified and all that… I’m pretty nervous about the next exam that’s coming down the pike. It’s going to take a lot more studying on my part, but at least I know what I’m in for.

No Money, No Time, No Meatloaf…
So we’re walking down Columbus Ave. on Saturday night, heading back to the car after checking out the new Harry Potter movie at the Commons (and wow is that digital screen beautiful)…
We come upon a mad party. Long lines, outdoor coat-check tents, folks wandering in and out dressed in swanky gowns and crisp tuxedos. We ask one relatively dressed-down guy who was smoking outside what the hell’s going on …
“Oh, Morris Day and the Time are on stage, and Meat Loaf is up next.”
It sounded like a joke, or at the very least a punch-line.
I would have loved to wander in and check the scene, but the guy went on to tell us more.. “It’s a benefit for the Big Brother program, and it’s $1000 a plate to get in.”
If I only had an extra $995 on me. So close to sharing a little “Jungle Love”, doing “The Bird”, and even getting to yell “JEROME!”.

Janeane, My Queen…
from the Hollywood Reporter…
Janeane Garafalo to Star in ABC Sitcom
ABC is working with comedian Janeane Garafalo on a sitcom pilot. Tentatively titled SLICE OF LIFE, the series will star Garofalo as a young producer on a TV newsmagazine show in charge of a short human-interest segment, who often steps in to do the job of the show’s executive producer.
Who knows if and when this show’ll ever get made, but hey, my hopes are high.

The Bazaar Bizarre Returns! …
I had a great time at last year’s self-proclaimed “punk craft fair” in Somerville, and was glad to find out that it’s coming back this December 6th. There are gifts to be purchased, you know. All the details are here, so check it.

Nowhere is Right Here…
The long-anticipated second episode of Justine Shaw’s wonderful online comic “Nowhere Girl” is now up. Well worth your valuable surf-time.
